In the before times we spent our weekends bopping around Nashville hitting up farmer’s markets, local shops, strolling through the malls or Target and eating at all our favorite restaurants during the not-too-busy hours with our kiddos. It was a wonderful time. But times have changed. Haven’t they?
As soon as COVID hit last March and we began staying home we began to struggle with our weekends. Eventually, though, we hit a flow. And now we’re sailing through our weekends just like we used to, but in a new and different way!
We made Fridays officially pizza night, which rings in the weekend very nicely! We also made Sunday night family movie night. Our first family movie was The Parent Trap and since then we’ve watched so many 90s gems. Matilda was so cute too. Our kids are young, so we begin with popcorn and movie time at about 4pm. We typically do not make it through a whole movie, we usually have to finish on Monday, but that’s ok. I’ve learned that it takes a LONG time to work up to watching a whole movie for little kids. We’re still working on that. I’m really excited to watch kids Halloween and Christmas movies with them in a few more months. Nova’s never seen Home Alone!
Our current favorite activities to fill our weekends are cooking at home (we recently learned to make homemade corn and flour tortillas), taking walks around our neighborhood (it’s the first home we’ve lived in since having kids with a super walkable neighborhood), swimming and then a bubble bath (we have one of those hilarious 1990s jacuzzi tubs, which the girls love), organizing and decorating (as long we pick the right projects the girls like to help with this) and driving around. Is driving around the new eating out? It maybe is for us. We sometimes just need to get out of the house so we get the girls slushees and drive around aimlessly.
My dress is from Target. I found a bunch of cute things there recently. I didn’t realize that the dressing rooms are closed now due to COVID so I pulled up with a bunch of clothes and they were like- go away. haha. I almost put them all back because I was scared nothing would fit and I’d love to come back just for returns, but I ended up buying some clothes and every single thing fit.
Here’s what all I got: floral dress, matching pjs for the girls and me, Johnny Cash tee, plaid skirt, cozy pjs in yellow, cozy long dress and cute white pants. I normally just look at the kids clothes when I’m at Target, so this was kind of fun! I wore the floral dress on our walk this morning and it was so nice to wear something besides yoga pants for a change.
I’ve been trying different essential oils and looking for something with a fall vibe. This blend is so nice– it’s a mix of citrus and peppermint so it’s really nice for our kitchen. Fresh! (My pink diffuser is from here)
I’m going to begin sharing small business finds on Sundays, so check back tomorrow for some small biz features. Other than that I’m going to unplug this weekend and try to make some art with the kids.
Be safe!
ps. The paint strokes on these photos were added with A Design Kit app. I feel like ADK is the most underrated of all our apps. It can do SO much. I’ll use it on more pics soon and show you!
