I LOVE goal setting and find it a great way to stay challenged in both my personal life and in business. This year we wanted to set one family goal (kind of a parenting goal) and we wanted to do something very scheduled we could keep up with all year (for example- “do this one thing each week” vs. “be better at X all year long”).
Nova has impressed us and inspired us so much with her love for art, music and learning. Jeremy and she play instruments constantly- almost every night ends with a Frozen sing-along by the piano and her “guitar” is her favorite toy (well, next to Piggy….).
That said, we recently realized we didn’t listen to very much music in 2018- in variety OR in quantity. We saw in our Spotify account a shockingly low number of hours of music listened to. We got into the habit of letting her request to same four songs every car ride and then that was it.
So our family goal for 2019 is to listen to a different band or artist every week. In this jar there are fifty two artists- most of whom we love but but forget to listen to. There are different moods and genres… everyone from Michael Jackson to Nancy Sinatra to Lana Del Rey to Dolly Parton. It goes all over the place, but I’d say it’s probably 70% old music and 30% (or less) from the past 10 years. We even included a bunch of music you suggested on Instagram- so thank you for your suggestions!
I’m so excited to see how this small goal will change the mood in our home, on our car rides and during playtime. We want so much to give Nova a musical childhood and this feels like the perfect first step.
Wish us luck? I’ll be sure to share an update here at some point this year as well as random updates on Instagram. xx!
