My first astrology reading + small biz Sunday.

Hello hello! For this week’s Small Biz Sunday I want to share two Etsy finds from Black-owned businesses. The first are these zodiac necklaces from Filosophy. Ofelia has a lot of beautiful gold jewelry and I will definitely be a repeat customer of hers!

The second is this pair of gold coin drop earrings from Marcia Vidal Jewelry. They are kind of a statement earring for people who don’t wear big earrings (me!). I love them so much.

I recently had my first astrology reading. I didn’t really know what to expect, I just did it for fun. What I took away from the session is that this current season of life is focused on home and building (accurate!) and there will be a season coming in the not too distant future that is based on creativity and newness. That was helpful to me because what I want right now, more than anything, is to just cozy up, be in a routine and hang out with my little girls. I have tendencies to put too much pressure on myself and try (but fail, of course) to be everything, all at once. So realizing that for now our plate is full and we need to just keep building what we’ve started feels like solid advice. Cheers to making the most of this current season and not trying to look too far ahead. XX

Halloween PJs because I can’t not post this…

SO for the record we spent this morning swimming and eating watermelon and doing summer things. I understand it’s still August and I’m not even wishing Summer away. It’s our first summer with a pool and our five year old just learned to swim- I’m in heaven.

With that said….

Halloween pjs are officially on the internet and I can’t not buy them, wear them immediately when they arrive and talk about them here. Because they just spark so much %#A$&## JOY for me!

I can’t deny who I truly am and the deepest part of my eternal soul is a HALLOWEEN lady. I am a true enthusiast, so please accept me for who I am. 🙂

So here’s my faves. I’ll make special notes for which ones I bought and also which ones come in adult sizes if you like to match. I know matching pjs are SO cheesy, but I also know I only have a few more years like this so I am going to enjoy them to the absolute fullest.

1. Fall leaves (here’s baby, toddler, big kid and women) Target has great prices and really great prints this year. These already sold out once and came back, so if a size sells out keep checking back. These will be cute for Thanksgiving.

3. Cutest ghost pjs ever. These come in sizes 12m to 6t. These are my absolute favorite new style this year. I got a pair for each our little girls.

Honorable mention! I have to mention these because our kids LOVE the glow-in-the-dark and Nova has been asking for these ALL year because Goldie currently wears her old toddler size pair. These make the best memories!

Painting, swimming and quarantine routines.

I made this painting of my grandmother, Corina, today when my kids were napping. I’ve been setting up my painting stuff and waiting for my “Big Magic” to arrive, but it never has so I decided that maybe just making some stuff would help. It was fun.

I’ve been thinking a lot about quarantine routines this week. What I can improve and what I need to just let go of for now. Definitely a bit of both!

The girls making “get well soon” cards for my grandmother. They love finger painting, but they hate to be messy. So we just use a LOT of wipes.

Our current routines consist of a lot of swimming, painting, cooking and playing games. We’ve also been spending a lot of time setting up our new home and unpacking. This takes a lot of time, so I’m grateful for podcasts (this is my current favorite one). I’m enjoying slowly unpacking and moving our old stuff from room to room to room trying to find it’s new home.

So currently, I am trying to dress cute a couple times a week (just for fun!) these days, but for the most part I am living in sweatshirts and yoga pants just like 99.9 percent of moms. But to be honest- this is not really quarantine related, it’s all the time. I’ve never been one of those people who feel like it makes them more productive to dress up.

This coming season I am setting a couple goals! One is that I have started to train for my half-marathon. If you listen to our podcast I mentioned it in our new years goals episode. I started in March during the beginning of quarantine, but then I got a bit overwhelmed with my work/parenting balance being off and quit. So I restarted two weeks ago. I’m doing one of those plans from the internet that helps you build up to the 13 mile run over 12 weeks (I might take longer and I don’t care at all as long as I complete it). I had never planned to sign up for a “real” half marathon even before the pandemic, I just wanted to do the training to just have a goal to work up to. I like running OK, but what I really truly need right now is some form of alone time so this feels like a win/win.

My other fun goal for the season is that I want to get back into making art. I already started painting, which feels really good. I’m also planning to set up a ceramics set up in our new garage for my birthday (which is in November) and I am SO EXCITED. I’ve been researching kilns and glaze pottery wheels and also reading about hand building. There’s really a lot to it, it’s a bit overwhelming and intimidating getting started and learning all the science behind firing ceramics. Luckily my mom was my first ceramics teacher, so I can Facetime her constantly to ask questions.

It’s fun to have goals, but most days I am just trying to be a good mom to my little girls and give them all the energy I have making stuff and doing lots of hide and seek. So if this post seems aspirational, know that I’m also just surviving, crying, eating ice cream and watching bad early 2000s tv. I hope you’re going easy on yourself as well! xx
