I was so busy last week that I totally forgot that I took a bunch of photos on the day we closed on our new home. I just found them and it’s weird because even though we’ve only owned this home for one week it already looks SO different inside. We’re painting almost every surface and removing all the carpet to start with. I’m so happy I have these photos to remember our first day.
We made sure to capture our special day in geeky cell phone photos. Ha! Here we are at the closing office (bright and early) and then on our front porch with our brand new keys. It was so surreal and fun to walk in for the first time and be alone in our new home. Sigh….. and to be done with all the paperwork.
Our first guests! We are those dorky people who treat their pets like children. As soon as we got our keys we couldn’t wait to take the dogs over to see the new space. We haven’t had a fenced in yard in the past, so we were pretty excited to see them running around. It was a moment to remember.
Choices. Let’s talk about choices. With a new home comes so many choices. Like most older homes, there are a lot of things that aren’t our taste. We’re trying to update things (hello, curtains made from table cloths and lion border in the dining room) yet stay (mostly) true to the homes era. We’re keeping it simple, but there are still just so many choices. I’m trying to follow my instincts, research where needed and not stress about the small things.
The cutest thing ever… Dolls was so scared to go on the stairs. She would barely move at first. And in the backyard, she had to get a running start and jump to get off the porch. I love this. ps. This carpet on the stairs is saying “goodbye” this week… and (surprise!) the wood stairs are painted (green!). I’m still trying to choose colors to re-paint them. Again with the choices….
Details are fun. Probably the best part about buying an older home are these charming little details. We’re keeping them all just as they are. I love all the nooks, the molding, the stained glass and big windows!
When we made an offer on this home we were pretty sure (read- optimistic) there was wood under all the carpet. Wood floors are always my first choice for pretty much every room. We peeked under vents and stuff when we were house shopping, but we couldn’t really know for sure until closing day. On closing day, the first thing we did was pull up carpet. We were pleasantly surprised that there are wood floors in good condition almost everywhere. We will only have to get one hallway done, but that’s no biggie. SO thankful!
This is my favorite little nook in our bedroom. I always wanted a window seat ever since I was a little girl. It’s kinda magical.
I’m so happy. We plan to move in just a few weeks so we have lots and lots to do! My heart still skips a beat every time we drive up. This is a really really happy time for our family. I’m looking forward to spending the holidays here this year.
